Durel names new assistant

Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel has named Carlee Alm-LaBar as his new assistant. Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel has named Carlee Alm-LaBar as his new assistant. Alm-LaBar replaces Ben Berthelot, recently appointed director of Community Development; she will begin her new job March 15.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., LaBar came to Acadiana several years ago through the Teach for America program; she taught at Church Point High School for three years before entering the non-profit sector. She most recently served as marketing and communications director for the Community Foundation of Acadiana and writes a regular column on philanthropy for The Daily Advertiser. Alm-LaBar received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and also holds at master's degree in public administration from LSU.

"I am excited to continue my efforts in public service and am honored to join the staff of a dedicated and progressive administration," Alm-LaBar says in a press release issued Monday morning. "I look forward to working with City-Parish President Durel, the rest of the Lafayette Consolidated Government, other public officials, and the citizens of Lafayette Parish to move our community forward."
