Jan Elmore was checking into the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans with her mom and sister Super Bowl weekend, preparing for a nice birthday with her family while her husband Jeff went to the big game in Miami. Little did she know, Jeff hadn't gone to Miami at all and was about to surprise her in the lobby of the hotel with their children. Also, upstairs in a suite were Jan's close friends ready to surprise her even further with a 40th birthday party! The group had dinner at Domenica, the latest endeavor of internationally acclaimed chef John Besh, before heading out to the party in the French Quarter until the wee hours of the morning. While many of the partygoers moseyed on home the next morning to be back in Lafayette to watch the Super Bowl, Jan and Jeff stayed in New Orleans to partake in the now legendary festivities.
The cold weather could not keep Party Girl away from the first UL baseball game of the season! Besides, I couldn't wait to get a glimpse of the new artificial turf they installed on the field. Blanket in tow, I joined 2,605 fans as we packed Moore field to watch UL play Nicholls State in the season opener. We did not leave disappointed, as the Cajuns made us proud by playing an amazing game. Jordan Poirrier's double in the eighth inning was the beginning of five runs that put the Cajuns over the top, leading them to a 6-2 win over Nicholls. The Cajuns won the Saturday and Sunday games as well, giving them a three-game sweep against the Colonels and a great start to the season.
