Jersey's Burgers and Dogs opens in Saints Streets

by Mary Tutwiler

Take America's ballpark dog. Drop it in the deep fryer. What do you get? Astonishingly, a great weiner, with a crisp skin that rips, the way the best boudin casing does, when you bite in. Hence the New Jersey nomenclature, "ripper." Deep frying dogs is what's happening at the newly opened Jersey's Burgers & Dogs, on Brook Street in the former Peppa Mello née Bonnie Bell's. Owner Salah "Joe" Yousef is also the baba ghanoush behind the highly successful gas station cum Athena Greek and Lebanese Express on Kaliste Saloom, and the more orthodox Athena at Ambassador Row. Go for a classic mustard, ketchup, relish combo, or try the chili dog, both are served on crisp and chewy Langlinais Bakery buns. Big dogs will set you back $3.89, the baby dog's a steal at $1.25.
