DTA, Bach Lunch, & Rhythms on the River schedules

by Dege Legg

Beautiful weather + Bach Lunch + Downtown Alive = YES.

It is almost springtime and that can only mean a few things: gallant poets riding white horses and spouting noble poems of undying love, a profound proliferation of allergies, Lent, an end to this tiresome cold weather, and a ton of festival events. Lafayette has no shortage of series festivals. Downtown Alive! Bach Lunch, and Rhythms on the River all kick off their Spring 2010 seasons in March (DTA, Bach Lunch) and April (Rhythms on the River).

It's a beautiful day, so you may as well eat outside and catch Bach Lunch today at noon in Parc San Souci. Later this evening, if you're in the mood, you can witness the season opener of Downtown Alive at 6 p.m. with G.G. Shinn, Steve Adams, Smoke, and Charlene Howard in Parc International. Do it.

Copy, paste, and print out the schedules below, and then stick them to your refrigerator so that you're never at a loss for cool things to do at the end of the week during Spring 2010.

OUTDOOR MUSIC SERIES

Tis springtime again almostand that can only mean a few things: gallant poets riding white horses and spouting noble poems of undying love, a profound proliferation of allergies, Lent, an end to this tiresome cold weather, and a ton of festival events. Lafayette has no shortage of series festivals. Downtown Alive! Bach Lunch, and Rhythms on the River all kick off their Spring 2010 seasons in March (DTA, Bach Lunch) and April (Rhythms on the River). A community tradition for 26 years and a popular staple in Acadiana's cultural calendar, the Downtown Alive! 2010 series kicks off March 12. Nobody does it like DTA to bring great entertainment in the form of free, family-friendly, smoke free, outdoor concerts to downtown Lafayette. Highlights of the Spring DTA season include T.K. Hulin, Pine Leaf Boys, bluesman John Mooney and Trueman Posse.

Bach Lunch kicked off their season on March 5. On March 12 they have Les Freres Michot for the second show of the series. Once again, you can make the downtown lunch scene outside, sitting on a patch of grass, with your cheap shades on, and your hog and old lady by your side. Because you're living in a movie, baby it's fabulous! People love you and you can eat some lunch out of a bag on, on the grass. For 22 years now, lunch hour series has provided free live music and affordable lunches. The concerts are held in downtown Lafayette at Parc Sans Souci at the corner of Polk, Congress and Vermilion streets. Proceeds go to the support of the Lafayette Science Museum. Highlights include BonSoir Catin, The Howdies, and The Canes.

Last but not least Rhythms on the River kicks it off on April 1 with Buckwheat Zydeco. Cedric Watson opens the show. If you live on the south side, there's no better place to catch live music on that end of town on a Thursday evening.
