Charles Cornay of Stirling Properties confirmed to the INDsider today that River Ranch sold 2 acres on Settlers Trace Boulevard to an investment group that will develop a Springhill Suites by Marriott hotel. Construction on the hotel, which will be built between Camellia Boulevard and Martial Avenue, is expected to begin in a month and will take about a year to complete.

Bill Harris of Larry Blumberg & Associates, a hotel management group based in Dothan, Ala., declined to disclose the purchase price of the property but says the project, including land costs, is expected to be in the $10 million range. Harris says the hotel will have about 100 rooms.

Harris says the developers of the Lafayette Marriott also have a Marriott (Courtyard) under construction in Alexandria. "I was a champion of Lafayette to the investment group," Harris says. "I have been looking at Lafayette for years and have been very impressed with the dynamic economy there," he adds, specifically noting Lafayette's vibrant retail, oil and gas and educational sectors. Harris also had high praise for our restaurant scene. "Lafayette's just a great little economic center," Harris says, "and just a nice place to live."
