SHAKING WITH ANGER

In response to The Independent article concerning Acadiana C.A.R.E.S. ("Homeless for the Holidays," Jan. 11), I am shaking with anger. This woman, Kathy Ashworth, apparently loved the idea that C.A.R.E.S. was using HUD money to refurbish a downtown uninhabitable building, until negotiations began. At that point she had the nerve to respond via her attorney that "all improvements must be approved by the landlord." How convenient.

All I remember of Ashworth is her planting trees along I-49/I-10. What a mark she has left on our fair city (note the sarcasm). It is truly great news that more progressive people have attained the reigns of local government and that outdated and repressive people like her are no longer representing our city.

Hypocrisy seems to be the main theme here. Kathy, grow up and get a heart. Realize that there is a world of problems that exists beyond the door of your Saint Street address. You may not like the idea of homosexuals and AIDs patients living in your building, but that is something you should have thought of before you used and abused the government's funds for your renovations.
