SpayNation for Dogs & Cats, a low cost spay/neuter center, has opened at 1640 North Bertrand Drive. SpayNation for Dogs & Cats, a low cost spay/neuter center, has opened at 1640 North Bertrand Drive. An initiative spearheaded by Wildcat Foundation Inc., the center offers low cost sterilization services for dogs and cats and is the first of its kind in Acadiana.

In Louisiana alone, 130,000 homeless pets enter shelters each year, but those shelters cannot support the huge number of accidental litters, unwanted pets and strays that are brought to them. About 92,000 are put to sleep, and thousands more live on the streets as strays or ferals. Spaying and neutering dogs and cats, and especially offering the service at a low cost, is the most effective and humane solution to dog and cat overpopulation.

"We are incredibly excited to bring this important and much-needed facility to Acadiana," says Cathy Damiano, SpayNation's executive director. "It's been something we've been dreaming about and planning for a long time. We know that SpayNation will make a difference."
