Senator Mary Landrieu and 3rd District Congressman Charlie Melancon appeared on CBS' 'Face the Nation' yesterday to discuss the growing severity of the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. Landrieu said that the amount of oil spilled in the Gulf over the past decade equals what is now gushing out every day and a half and that the ramifications could be catastrophic. Melancon spoke about the resolve of Louisiana's shrimping and fishing industries and also said the federal government is going to have to find the right balance for regulating future oil drilling projects.

"Our government needs to get somewhere in between 'drill baby drill' and spill baby spill," Melancon said. "We need to start having safety be a priority not only for the people that work on on these rigs but also for the estuaries that are surrounding them."
