Angelle gets unanimous nod as interim Lt. Gov.

The former St. Martin Parish president takes over an office Gov. Bobby Jindal wants to eliminate.

Scott Angelle was unanimously confirmed by the House and Senate Wednesday to serve as interim lieutenant governor, replacing Mitch Landrieu, who was sworn in as New Orleans mayor on Monday. The Senate voted 33-0 and the House voted 100-0 to approve Angelle's nomination. The former St. Martin Parish president served as both secretary of the state Department of Natural Resources and as Gov. Bobby Jindal's legislative liaison.

Angelle's ratification by the Legislature came on the same day the House shot down legislation supported by Jindal to pull the Office of Culture, Recreation and Tourism out of the lieutenant governor's purview, leaving the lieutenant governor position one of cutting ribbons and being first in line to succeed the governor.
