Charter commish extends deadline for rural minorities

Due to an insufficient number of résumés submitted by minority residents from unincorporated Lafayette Parish, the City-Parish Council has extended the deadline for submissions by residents fitting that demographic by two weeks. The council received only one résumé from a rural minority during the two-week submission period that ended at noon Tuesday. The new deadline is noon, Tuesday, June 1.

According to the ordinance creating the charter commission, two minority members - one from the city and one from unincorporated Lafayette Parish - must be serve on the panel. Eight minority members from the city submitted résumés. Employees of Lafayette Consolidated Government or persons with a contractual relationship with LCG are prohibited from serving on the commission. Résumés with verification of address can be mailed to council Clerk Norma Dugas, P.O. Box 4017-C, Lafayette, LA 70502.
