SoLaf land battles heat up

The race to gobble up unincorporated parts of south Lafayette Parish along the recently opened Ambassador Caffery South extension continues Tuesday. The race to gobble up unincorporated parts of south Lafayette Parish along the recently opened Ambassador Caffery South extension continues Tuesday as the Lafayette City-Parish Council votes on ordinances that would annex nearly 500 acres of land in the area between Lafayette, Broussard and Youngsville. Two of the ordinances would rescind and then re-annex 274 acres between La Neuville Road and Ambassador to take in Les Vieux Chenes Golf Course and Fabacher Field - city-owned and -operated recreational facilities. The annexation was originally approved by the council on April 26, but a lawsuit filed by the city of Broussard challenging the timing of the vote precipitated the redo by the CPC. Broussard has also filed a civil suit against the city of Youngsville for an annexation its council approved along Ambassador between the Youngsville Highway and Bonin Road.

The other annexation up for a final vote before the CPC Tuesday is roughly 220 acres north and south of the Ambassador extension west of Vivian Drive and east of La Neuville that includes Plantation Oaks subdivision. That vote comes a day after the Broussard City Council, in a rare Memorial Day meeting, voted on yet another annexation in the area.
