In a special Tuesday meeting, the Lafayette City-Parish Council will vote on an ordinance for final adoption that would annex into the Lafayette city limits approximately 220 acres of land off the Ambassador Caffery South extension that includes Plantation Oaks subdivision. The council voted last week to table the measure for seven days and remove a 50' x 50' strip from the proposed incorporation that the city of Broussard had voted to annex the day before.

However, late last week, in an escalation of the legal battles among the three municipalities - Broussard, Lafayette and Youngsville - that straddle the recently opened stretch of Ambassador, the city of Lafayette filed a judicial challenge against Broussard's annexation on May 31, accusing Broussard of failing to adhere to state public notice laws by holding a special meeting on Memorial Day to vote on the annexation, of annexing outside of its incorporated limits and of being "unreasonable" in its justification for the annexation. Broussard has previously filed civil suits against Lafayette and Youngsville over separate annexations along Ambassador.

The council will also get a briefing Tuesday on land-use recommendations in the Lafayette In a Century plan which were submitted recently to the Planning Commission for consideration.
