Bourgeois represented District 2 during Durel's first term from 2004 to 2008.
"I am pleased Dale has agreed to serve on the commission," Durel says in a press release announcing the appointment. "As I have previously stated, I was looking for someone with the experience of having worked directly under the current charter. Dale is one of those people with that unique experience, and I know he will work well with his fellow commissioners."
Durel made two appointments to the nine-member commission: one resident from the city of Lafayette - George Lewis, a former city and parish auditor - and another, former City-Parish Councilman Randy Menard, from unincorporated Lafayette Parish. Bourgeois is Durel's third choice for the seat representing unincorporated Lafayette: Menard, his first choice, bowed out less than 24 hours after Durel announced his selection at Tuesday's CPC meeting; school board rep Mike Hefner, whom Durel selected as Menard's replacement, was found to be ineligible because he's an elected public official.
The commission will be sworn in Wednesday, July 21.
