That's the notion behind a series of dinners offered by the Alliance Française de Lafayette. Four dinners will be offered beginning on July 28 that combine cooking classes and salon dining in a 19th century atmosphere.

The cuisine du monde dinners all take place Wednesdays, 5:30-8pm at the historic Brandt House (c.1870), 614 Madison Street. The cost is $50 per course or $175 for all 4 dinners. Each of the three course meals will be served in the style of classic 19th century European dining and cooked on a La Cornue stove in antique copper pots. The food will be served on Old Paris and Limoges china, antique damask linen napkins and sterling silver cutlery. Guest will be seated on Louis XIV chairs. "It is as much about the history as it is about the cuisine," says Brandt House owner Sonya Boudreaux. Written copies of all of the recipes will be presented bilingually.
