Does the loss of your Constitutional rights piss you off? How about passivity agents in your tap water? How about DARPA, HAARP, scalar weapons, and a host of other injustices secretly foisted on the public? Load the family up and head out to the Classic Arms Gun & Knife Show on Aug. 14 & 15 at the Heymann Center.

SUMMER FEST
Lafayette sure has a lot of festivals. Here's one more for the kids. Summer Fest at Parc International on Aug. 14. This end-of-summer festival features Kid's Splash Fest, a family concert, boutiques, vendors and a volleyball tournament. Live music by Wayne Toups, Side Show, Mike Dean Band, and Poison Tribute Band. All benefits go to the Free World Foundation. Bring towels and extra clothing for the kids, because you may get wet. Parc International. 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

LBR
I've yet to see a Cajun band that can out rock the Lost Bayou Ramblers. Growing up in Pilette, brothers Louis and Andre Michot were immersed in roots Cajun music from birth, learning traditional songs and playing music with their family. They eventually formed Lost Bayou Ramblers with bassist Alan Lefleur. After a few line-up changes they drafted Cavan Carruth and Austin drummer "Saber Tooth." They rock the Blue Moon on Aug. 13.

FREAK SCENERY
The freaks come out at night. So the saying goes. Every city needs a club where freaky, straight, crooked or freedom-loving people of all stripes can go and feel comfortable. Sadie's has been carrying that torch for the past couple years. They showcase that freedom-loving freakiness on Aug. 13 with belly dance troupe Trybe Habibi Bizarre, Marjahani (California belly dancer), Jerikaye the Fire dancer from outer space (Fire Dancer), Jebidiah Good stuff's Pyro-Maniacal Old Tyme Traveling Sideshow, and Angry Poet. Check it.

BIG BROTHER/RAT SCENE
Godless rats! They devour everythingeven the soul of man. Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre presents a play and silent auction benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana. The play is "Death of the Nutria Rat Queen." The festivities includes a three-course dinner, comedy, mystery, excitement, murder and prizes. Reservations can be made online at AcadianaBigs.com or by calling 269-0454. It all goes down at the City Club at River Ranch on Aug. 13 and 14.

LA TO L.A.
Lots of bands make the move from Louisiana to L.A. looking to hit the bigtime only to find that the City of Light is over-crowded with a bunch of predictable darkness in the form of predatory record labels, mediocre rock bands and an oversaturated market teaming with lost souls, boots made of exotic mall leathers and hundreds of bad ideas for showbiz haircuts. Former Ruston band Hydrovibe moved to the heart of the beast sometime in the '00s, taking up residence in Los Angeles to chase the dragon's dream. They return to Louisiana on Aug. 11 to play Grant Street with The Botanist opening the show.

VERMILIONVILLE CULTURE DAY
Vermilionville celebrates Cajun culture with free admission to Acadiana Culture Day on Aug. 15. There will be music, food, language, hands-on crafts, demonstrations and more. It all begins at 10 a.m. and runs till 5 p.m. at Vermilionville. Live music by Riggs Brown & The Bayou Cajuns and the Lafayette Rhythm Devils.

M-REX
Singer-songwriter, bard and former playwright Rex Moreau brings his roots, rock, sullen pop, and rip rock to the Blue Moon with indie rock and alt-country songstress K.K. Bellamy on Aug. 14.

CRAB IT UP
Dude, why do all the mod-rock, side-swipe hair bands all have those giant jpegs of themselves embedded at the top of their Myspace pages? Answer: Because they're HUGE! Add in some crab core moves like "the Corexit crawl" or "The Inedible Crab" and some breakdowns, and you'll have magik. Lafayette's Myka, Relocate come with the melodo-metal, mod-rock to Sadie's on Aug. 12. They are joined by the loadstone stomp of Baton Rouge/Lafayette's Bearfighter and grind-blast cookie monster metal of This Horrible Machine. Bust it Aug. 12 at Sadie's.
