On July 12 the commission voted 3-2 to deny Jay Miller, owner of Jaybro Developments, permission to construct the 11-lot development in the triangular confluence where Arnaudville Road and Magellan Road meet at La. 1252. Commission members pointed to concerns over drainage in nixing the plan.
The subdivision is opposed by residents living nearby. Citing concerns over drainage and an adverse effect on property values, neighbors Bobby and Kristen Miller wrote a letter to the commission urging it to deny the plan. "Mobile home typically depreciate in value unlike traditional homes," the Millers write. "What is this going to do to our property values 15 years down the road? We are opposed to this subdivision!" About 20 residents living near the proposed development signed on in support of the letter.
In a letter to Lafayette Consolidated Government indicating his intention to appeal the decision, Jay Miller says the drainage issues at the proposed development have been addressed by Watson Ricks Engineering Group.
