MOMIX
PASA kicks off its 2010-2011 season with the physical theatre, circus athleticism and comedy of MOMIX's "Bonanica." These dancer-illusionists do some trippy stuff with birds, trees, bugs, and flowers. Think rad props, elegant lighting, probably some new age music (with a pinch of electronica) and you're getting close. MOMIX plays the Heymann Center on Oct. 19. See INDfocus for other Momix-related activities in Lafayette this week and next.

ANCIENT BLUES
Born in Kenner in 1925, Henry Gray has lived the blues and pounded at the piano alter of its chapel for more decades than one can count. Over the years he's played with Robert Lockwood Jr., the Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and many others. With 58 albums to his credit - some for the legendary Chess label - Gray has put in the work. Give it back to him on Oct. 15 when he plays Downtown Alive!

PASS THE MYRRHI'M MELLOW
He's the wise wizard of alt living, loving and giving what you got to the people. He's the Guru of Gaza and the Pied Piper of Preaching the Gospel of Love. Griff Blakewood, aka Riffs of Griff, plays a psychedelic set of electrode-folk sorcery. He opens the show for singer-songwriter chick Hudost. She sings about dreamy dreamboats, royal mountains, ethereal sunsets and stuff like that, which is good. But if you're looking for Motorhead, this ain't it. Still, you should check this show out, because it'll keep you mellow and might inspire random acts of kindness like petting a weird cat. Riffs of Griff and Hudost play Bourque's Social club in Scott Oct. 13.

SHELL SHOCKED
She was rad in the 80s - kind of like a proto-Ani Defranco meets Phranc meets folk singing punk rock troubadour. She's still around. Still making music and playing it to the people. Michelle Shocked brings her topical, chill-folk to the Blue Moon Oct. 17. In addition, a few local songwriters with similar songwriting subject matter will be joining the bill on some form.

BIRD AND KETTE
Bird City is a moist sausage of soft, even texture and flavor, often made from meat slurry, beef and pork, chicken substitute and/or turkey loins. Bass, keyboards, drums and guitars are added to give the mixture a fully cooked or smoked flavor. Bird City plays Artmosphere Oct. 15 with T-kette. Often used to remove cleaning fluid from a glass surface, T-kette sometimes acts as a lubricant to break up dirt when a squeegee is not available. Some T-kettes are backed with a sponge that can soak up soapy water from a bucket for application to a dirty and volatile surface. When the World was Sound is an object-detection system that utilizes electromagnetic waves to identify the range, altitude, direction or speed of both moving and fixed objects. They are also on the bill. Go.

REVEREND DEAD EYE
If you like your roots and blues music dirty, slimy, greasy and not so clean-cut, check out Reverend Deadeye. The roving slide-guitar bluesman - from parts unknown - comes to town to spread the no man's gospel of high plains drifting. Reverend Deadeye plays Artmosphere Oct. 14.

7 MILE YARD SALE
If you dig garage sales, then this is your ticket. Bang. Seven miles of them, baby. Take your pick. There's the clothing, household items, crafts, yard art, jams, weird hats, old board games, jellies and whatever. It all goes down Oct. 16 on Hwy. 93 between Arnaudville and Grand Coteau from 7 a.m. 4 p.m. Various nonprofits will be selling food along the way. So bust it.

RICE RICE, BABY
Leon Chavis, Nik L Beer, Wayne Toups & Zydecajun, Geno Delafosse, Jamie Bergeron, Travis Matte and many more play the Crowley Rice Festival from Oct. 14 16. It's a big deal. Go.

IRIDIUM SAXOPHONE QUARTET
The Iridium Saxophone Quartet to perform at Angelle Hall. Cool band nameif you like saxophones. These cats honk, blast, blow and toot through all kinds interesting musical things. Check it out Oct. 17.
