Award-winning Cajun singer-songwriter Zachary Richard is recovering following a minor stroke earlier this week that affected the left side of his body, according to Todd Mouton, a Richard friend and executive director of Louisiana Folk Roots.

The stroke impaired Richard's motor skills, but the musician says doctors have given him a good prognosis. "Thanks to some great health care providers I was wiggling my toes and doing some guitar picking within 24 hours," Richard says in a press release. "There's a lot of work ahead, but they all tell me that Zach will be back, 100 percent."

As a result of the stroke, the 60-year-old Richard was forced to postpone several concerts in Canada as well as a promotional tour for "Le Grand Gosier," a double-sided single and video he produced to raise awareness of issues facing the Louisiana Gulf Coast and its people.
