Artist Thad Morgan unveiled his spectacular LAfestival Official Painting of a vivid Louisiana landscape at Village Café's new space next door to its DeGaulle Square restaurant in River Ranch. Bodacious Productions' Toby Doré, Gus Rezende and David Goodwyn sponsored the lively reception attended by artists and art admirers. Morgan, known for his unique portraits, says that the landscape painting was "new to me," but wow, did he ever succeed in capturing the beautiful trees native to our state! "Louisiana's trees have such beauty and vitality to them," he says. Village Café Executive Chef Jude Tauzin served up incredible hors d'oeuvres, including grilled ginger marinated tuna, pepper jelly-glazed lamb chops and Portobello fries with a Tabasco aioli sauce. LAfestival, "a sustainable, renewable, environmental cause," is set for Nov. 13 at downtown's Parc International and features fabulous food by Village Café and music by Sonny Landreth, the Givers, Nevillution with Cyril Neville & Family, Anders Osborne, Jumpin Johnny Sansone, Chief Monk Boudreaux and Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears.

Lafayette philanthropists filled the elegant L'Eveche, home of the Rev. Chester Arceneaux and other clergy members, at the Opus Christi Magnum reception hosted by Kelley Gauthreaux, Dr. Kim Hardey, Randy K. Haynie, Sen. Mike Michot and Tyron Picard. Following an address by Bishop Michael Jarrell and an inspiring speech by Courtney Chapmin at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, donors adjourned next door for the fabulous gathering catered by Stacy Landry, including tomato-basil skewers, sea bass, king crab sauté and shrimp cocktails. Fittingly, a full-bodied cabernet sauvignon, Magnificat, accompanied the delicious spread. OCM, "The Great Work of Christ," consists of six events held during the year and replaces the Bishop's Charity Ball as the primary fundraiser for the charities of the Lafayette Catholic Service Center, including St. Joseph Diner, St. Joseph Shelter for Men, St. Joseph Transitional Housing Program, St. Michael Center for Veterans, Bishop O'Donnell Transitional Housing Program and the Monsignor Sigur Service Center. "This unparalleled fundraiser donates 92 cents of every dollar raised to these programs," says Ed Hebert, 2010 OCM chairman.
