MARS AIN'T THE KIND OF PLACE TO RAISE KIDS
Two lords of the ivories - Elton John and Leon Russell - join forces to do battle against the kings of sub-par songwriting and pull off the concert of the eon. Grandiloquent ballads aside, these two are kings of the piano and pop song, having plied their trade in public and private for the past four decades. After recently collaborating on the T Bone Burnett produced album The Union, the two reunite again for a massive tour. Elton John and Leon Russell play the Cajundome on Nov. 12.

DAX
Like some strange character out of Lord of the Rings, for the past two decades Riggs has been scanning the depths of Mordor and plying his inimitable trade in the underground rock and metal scene - first with Acid Bath, then Agents of Oblivion, followed by Deadboy & The Elephantmen and than finally coming full circle, Dax Riggs became Dax Riggs. His new record Say Goodnight To The World is a kick-ass Stoogey romp through dark rocking, anti-sheep flocking and quantum sock hopping. The dark poet of the dust Dax Riggs plays Blue Moon on Nov. 13.

FROGS
Sometimes known as the "Louisiana City of Murals," but most popularly known as the "Frog Capital of the World," Rayne hosts their annual Frog Festival. It's a big shindig with a lot of music and frogs. And people. In addition there will be a beauty pageant, a fitness frog run, poker run, some unicycles, arts & crafts, a grand parade and a ton of live music from Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie, Jackie Callier/Ivy Dugas & Cajun Cousins, John Conlee, Chubby Carrier, Drew Zaunbrecher, Jamie Bergeron & The Kickin' Cajuns, Bucky Covington, and more. It all goes down Nov. 11-14 in Rayne under the cover of the 20,000-square-foot Festival Pavilion.

11/11
It could be the holiest of all days, 11/11, but regardless of numerological considerations, Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience will rock River Ranch town square for Rhythms on the River on Nov. 11.

THE CANES
Lafayette's roots, boogie and tasteful twang rockers The Canes plays Downtown Alive! on Nov. 12. If you dig good lyrics, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, The Band and sticking it to The Man, you need to be at this show. Hell, you know they're good if Roddy Romero is the guitar player. That dude is smoking bad-ass. Be at Parc Sans Souci from 6 8 p.m. for a killer show.

FUEL
Formed in 1989 in Brownsville, Tenn., titans of '90s balladry Fuel made the alt-rock rounds back in the day. Their hit "Hemorage (in my hands)" skyrocketed up the charts (in people's minds) and dutifully fulfilled their angsty needs (in their brains) and eventually their butts (CUCUMBER!) during the alterno-rock gold rush. Fuel plays Nitetown on Nov. 15.

CROSSROADS
Oh, to be young, cool and backed by well-connected music industry people who know how to get your music into the right hands so that you can live the dream and not end up broke, living in a sad shack motel and collecting a crazy check. Dylan Leblanc, 20, must have a rocking management team. Dude just popped on the scene and he's already got 1) a gig at Louisiana Crossroads, 2) a Wikipedia entry, and 3) a record deal. Although a native of Shreveport, Leblanc's dad was one of the session players at Alabama's historic Muscle Shoals studio. "I grew up around a lot of the session playerswhen I was 11 or 12, I would watch and ask a lot of questions," says Leblanc in his online bio. So considering the peak years of Muscle Shoals studio was 1969-1979 and Leblanc was born in 1990, that means, he'd probably be asking questions like, "Hey, dude. How do you play the riff from 3 Doors Down's Kryptonite?'" I love band bios - they reek of marketing teams shooting for Authenticity Dollar$ while trying to make their client look like Leadbelly's second cousin. When is someone going to just stand up and say, "I'm a suburban goon like everyone else, but now I play acoustic guitar and I'm shooting for a singer-songwriter career just like the 106,345,902 other guys." Regardless, Dylan Leblane is good. Maybe too good for his years. Take early My Morning Jacket, sprinkle some Lightfoot dust on it, and - Boom! - out pops out a dude with great vocal chops, quaint roots tunes, and MOJO Magazine proclaiming, "Greatness beckons." Dylan Leblanc plays Louisiana Crossroads at the new AcA Performance Theater on Nov. 11.
