SoMo
Coffee and espresso in their various forms are not foreign to Lafayette, and when it's time to get that caffeine fix, most people turn to their "usual." Well, if you're tired of the usual, Johnston Street Java has a new flavor that doesn't scream dessert and is a nice fit for morning. In a latte, its Southern Molasses flavor delivers a hint of sweetness from Steen's cane syrup intermingled with espresso and milk under a rich blanket of froth. Grab one with a bagel or one of the coffee shop's fresh cupcakes; $3.46 for a small.

SQUEEZING SCHOOL
Some people move away from Louisiana, but Louisiana never leaves them. Such is the case with John Trahan. Fresh from moving back to Acadiana after a lengthy time living in Texas, songwriter, accordionist, and guitarist John Trahan is back on the scene. On his new CD My Louisiana, Trahan comes off the creative sidelines, honking, squeezing, strumming and singing about his favorite place - drum roll - Louisiana. Composed of mostly interpretive covers - Iry Lejuene, Hank Williams, Ivy Dugas - the 12 songs on this disc showcase Trahan's exceptionally clean chops, fine singing voice, accordion playing and squishing. There ain't another man on the planet that can squish like the Trahanator. Nobody! He's a master squisher. The fevered brilliance of his runs conjures the image of a highly motivated master chimney sweeper blowing out the dust of a thousand year old church chimney - brow sweating, bellows pumping, crows flying. You got everything on this disc: some Cajun, some zydeco, some everyman balladry, some tumbleweed swing and more. You can buy My Louisiana at www.cdbaby.com/cd/jtrahan. - Dege Legg

EAT, PRAY, LOVE - THESE BRACELETS
Though her company, Henri Lou, is only a couple of years old, Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Reagan Rowland's pieces have been spotted on numerous celebrities, among whom are Teri Hatcher, Jessica Simpson, Kristen Bell, Miley Cyrus and Julia Roberts - who lent her star power by wearing a Henri Lou "Henri" bracelet to promote her 2010 movie, Eat Pray Love. Rowland's jewelry is inspired by nature, with a boho chic flair. All designs are meticulously crafted with hand knotting and braiding, using quality leathers, stones, pearls, jade and vintage chains. They're edgy yet very feminine, with a soft look and feel. The bracelets, available in Lafayette exclusively at Hemline in River Ranch in three colors and four styles, sell for about $80.
