Rickey Bustle's nine-year tenure as UL's head football coach ended during a noon press conference Monday.

Rickey Bustle's nine-year tenure as UL's head football coach ended during a noon press conference Monday when Athletic Director David Walker announced Bustle's departure. The Daily Advertiser confirmed via a text message exchange with Bustle on Sunday that he would not return for the 2011 season. The Advertiser further reports today that Bustle broke the news to his staff on Friday before the Ragin Cajuns closed out the season with a 23-22 win over UL Monroe; the coach informed players of his status in the locker room following the game.

Bustle and the Cajuns went 3-9 in his final season. The coach leaves the program with an overall record of 41-65 that included four six-win seasons and one winning season and a share of the Sun Belt Conference title. The Cajuns never made a bowl appearance during Bustle's time at the helm.

Bustle came to Lafayette from Virginia Tech University where he served as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He took over a Ragin Cajun program that was in disarray, having gone a dismal 6-27 under former head coach Jerry Baldwin.
