LUS Fiber is kickstarting a new and improved Refer-A-Friend program just in time for the holidays and with a little help from one of its more well-known local customers. Dee Stanley, the former KLFY news director and current Chief Administrative Officer for Lafayette Consolidated Government, is lending his velvet smooth voice to a robocall going out to all existing LUS Fiber customers. "Hi, this is Dee Stanley and like you, I'm an LUS Fiber customer," the call begins. Stanley then relays how LUS is upping the reward on its Refer-A- Friend program. LUS Fiber has been offering existing customers $50 off their bill (over 5 months) for every new customer they refer. Now, each referral results in $50 off for both the referring subscriber and the newly referred customer. In addition, anyone who makes at least two referrals by January 4th is eligible for a "Refer 2 for the Holidays" bonus, where one lucky customer will receive $500 in LUS Fiber bill credits. Call 291-8100 to hear the Stanley robocall or visit LUS Fiber's website for more details.

The referral program and robocall is a savvy new marketing play from LUS Fiber. In The Independent Weekly's recent cover story, "Market Share", which focused on the budget and advertising challenges facing the new business, LUS Director Terry Huval stated the need to rely on a more grassroots, neighbor to neighbor campaign, in order to help compensate for their comparatively small advertising budget. LUS Fiber has approximately $500,000 budgeted for all marketing and promotions for the 2010 fiscal year.
