It's hard to understand how Senator Mary Landrieu has become so adamantly opposed to tax cuts for Americans making more than $250,000, given that she was one of the few Democratic Senators to vote for those same tax cuts when they were originally proposed under President Bush. Landrieu has had harsh words for her Senate colleagues and President Obama for compromise legislation with Republicans to extend all of the Bush tax cuts while at the same time guaranteeing an extension of unemployment benefits and other tax cuts for lower and middle income Americans. Landrieu went so far as to call the compromise evidence of "moral corruptness," adding, this "is beyond politics. This is about justice and doing what's right."
While Landrieu claims she only supported Bush's tax cuts for wealthy Americans in 2001 because of large budget surpluses at the time, many are questioning if this isn't just a classic example of Landrieu shifting her position with the political winds.
