by Dege Legg

Chef Pat Mould and folklorist Barry Ancelet team up for the In Our Own Backyard series for a holiday cooking demo.

The art of cooking is genetically fused into Cajun culture. During the holidays, families revel in the chance to make special dishes in large quantities to feed extended families for several days. Chef Pat Mould and folklorist Barry Ancelet team up for the In Our Own Backyard series to demonstrate some of these dishes. Rumor is the evening's menu may include gumbo, drinking custard, pecan pie, tarte à la bouillie (custard pie) and a roast. Find out what holiday favorites they'll be dishing up as they trade holiday stories and recipes on Dec. 14 at Vermilionville for this week's installment of In Our Own Backyard. The demonstration starts at 6:30 p.m.

In Our Own Backyard is a free series open to all ages. Food and drinks are available for purchase. In Your Own Backyard is co-sponsored by the Center for Cultural and Eco Tourism and the Vermilionville Foundation, with support from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
