The commission is currently working on three separate charters: a city of Lafayette charter that would grant the city its own mayor and council; a charter for Lafayette Parish that would create a parish council and parish president; and an amending version of the existing Lafayette Consolidated Government charter, which went into effect in 1996. The Lafayette Charter Commission holds its final meeting of 2010 as it eyes the home stretch of a nine-month process. Seated in July and set to conclude its work in April, the commission is tasked with making a recommendation on what form of government(s) Lafayette Parish should adopt going forward. That recommendation will go directly to voters in either fall of next year or spring 2012.

According to commissioner and former District 6 City-Parish Councilman Bruce Conque, "Exactly how and what will be recommended for consideration by the voters has yet to be discussed in detail."
The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the CPC auditorium and is open to the public.
