LHS's Badeaux blows Idol judges away

by Leslie Turk

Jacee Badeaux is sittin' pretty on the dock of the bay.

Lafayette has good reason to watch the new season of American Idol. Last night Jacee Badeaux, a sophomore in Lafayette High's Performing Arts Academy, made the cut in the New Orleans auditions with a splendid rendition of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay." And if you watch Idol, you know the auditions are typically a capella. Pure talent. And he's only 15.

In its 10th season, the popular show, which airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on FOX, now features two new judges, actress/singer Jennifer Lopez, and multiple Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steven Tyler, the frontman of Aerosmith. They join returning Idol judge Randy Jackson, a Baton Rouge native who was right at home for the New Orleans auditions, where the show - to no one's surprise - unearthed impressive talent. Jacee, in particular, clearly moved each judge and was easily sent on to the finals in Hollywood.

Keep up the good work, Jacee. We'll be watching.

In the meantime, let Jacee blow you away, too - and make your Friday. Watch him here and view a short clip of the show's trip to New Orleans here.
