The Louisiana Democratic Party is evidently greeting this bit of good news in an otherwise dreary political season with a muted trumpet.
Political columnist John Maginnis issued a correction Thursday to this week's LA Politics column, giving Democrat Nathan Granger a sizeable lead over Republican state Rep. Jonathan Perry in the election to replace former District 26 state Sen. Nick Gautreaux, a Democrat who resigned the seat to take the post of commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles.
Citing a "miscommunication," Maginnis points to a Lauer Johnson poll conducted for the Granger campaign - an important caveat - showing Granger with a 49-29 percent lead over Perry. The Louisiana Democratic Party is evidently greeting this bit of good news in an otherwise dreary political season with a muted trumpet: There's no mention of the poll or of Granger at all, for that matter, on the state party's website. Between Thursday and Friday, however, the Dem's IT department did remove a photo of state Attorney General Buddy Caldwell from their home page; Caldwell this week defected to the GOP.
Granger, an Abbeville businessman and Vermilion Parish police juror, and Kaplan's Perry are the only two candidates who qualified for the Feb. 19 special election.
