It's a packed week of live music. Too much going on to highlight, so I'm going to rundown the major live happenings this week.

MARDI GRAS WEEK: ARTMOSPHERE
On March 2, El Domainia brings the old school, Oi! garage, freak folk to the stage. On March 3, Ronnie Vice hosts his resident blues jam. On March 4, Vagabond Swing kicks out the jams with their tarantella gypsy folk with The Revivalists opening the show. On March 5, French Canadian Sonny Duval of Les Breastfeeders and The Viatones throw down the retro rock. On March 6, twee-indie popper mavericks T-Kette team up with John Dwyer's Thee Oh Sees and Dj Judd K for a night of fun rock. On March 7, Snarky Puppy host the Free Town Lundi Gras Ball with Brass Mimosa. Expect funk, jam, jazz, etc. And on Mardi Gras day if you dig horns the Soul Express Brass Band, E. Company and Machete gang up on Fat Tuesday action.

MARDI GRAS WEEK: BLUE MOON SALOON
As always, the Blue Moon is on it when it comes to booking shows during a holiday or festival weekend. This year's Mardi Gras is no different. The Blue Moon will be celebrating its 10th annual Mardi Gras with some killer live music. On March 2, they kick off with a special Mardi Gras Jam night. On March 3, the Moon welcomes the Cajun, swing, old time juke of the Red Stick Ramblers. On March 4, The Stone River Boys open the show for a special Mardi Gras Bluerunners reunion show. These guys were breaking the mold before anyone knew where to flush it. They're back with all the original Bluerunners for this show. On March 5, Louisiana transplant Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole kick the jams with the old time Cajun sounds of Ryan Brunet & the Malfecteurs. Side note: Ryan Brunet has the widest feet of any documented human known to mankind. On March, 6, Hungry, Hungry pair up with Sonn Duval and Isle Derniere of Les Breastfeeders for some garage rock action. On March 7, Brass Bed and Feufollet team up for indie pop and Lundi Gras rock shenanigans. On Mardi Gras day, JP Harris and the Tough Choices, The Pine Hill Haints, Drew Landry, Troy Richard and the Richard Revue, Diego Martin & 80 Proof, Brass Mimosa, Teddy Lamson, Julian Primeaux and His Royal Rowdy Company, Prodigies of Peace and good ole' Hart kick out a TON of jams all freaking day.

MARDI GRAS WEEK: GRANT STREET
Grant Street has it going on all Mardi Gras week as well courtesy of some hefty bookings by Bodacious Brother Toby Dore. On March 3, the dark poet of rock & roll, Dax Riggs, comes to town with his full band to lay down the jams. On March 4, Austin's T-Bird & the Breaks hit town with their soul, blues and sing-a-long revue. On March 5, Lafayette and Mardi Gras in general get a much needed does of some metal with White Light Cemetery, Vermilion Whiskey and Hot for Teachers. On March 7, it's a Lundi Gras zydeco freakout with recent Grammy winner Chubby Carrier, Rockin Dopsie, Jr., Buckwheat Zydeco, Lil Buck Senegal and The Soul Express Brass Band.

MARDI GRAS BOWL JAM
The Mardi Gras Bowl Jam returns on March 8. Located at the Youth/Ramp Park behind Goodwill on Johnston, the Bowl Jam is going on its third year as a live music anti-tradition. And it's got a lot of good stuff going for it: it's free, it's outdoors, they always have rad bands, and lastly, there is a skate contest going on the whole time with everyone from kids to old farts ripping in the skate bowl. This year the line-up includes the best in Lafayette's underground scene. The skate contest starts at noon and costs $10 to enter.

MARDI GRAS WEEK: CAJUN FIELD
Sometimes the party begins when the parades end. Cajun Field hosts another week-long Mardi Gras celebration with live music, carnival rides and games for the kids.
On March 4, you can catch live music by Cory Ledet, Walker Hayes and River Road. On March 5: Full Circle, Tony Goulas, Leon Chavis, Troy & Jacob Landry, Bayou Boys, Jaryd Lane and Jamie Bergeron play the main stage. On March 6 it will be T Broussard, Nik L Beer, Travis Matte and Bag of Donuts. On March 7, catch Louisiana Kids, Southern Kross, Mulkey, Side Show, Kimberly Caldwell and Wayne Toups. On Mardi Gras day, the Glenn Delaune Group, Lee Benoit and Damon Troy play throughout the day.

MARDI GRAS WEEK: LAKE VIEW
Lake View may be way over in Eunice, but it offers one of the more authentic live music experiences in Acadiana. All the bands play in a big barn with a great PA and Christmas lights strung around the place. It's worthy. If a city-centric Mardi Gras gets on your nerves and you're in the mood to get out of the concrete jungle, you should definitely head on over to hang with the good peeps at Lake View. On March 4, Jason Frey & Lagniappe and Paul Daigle & Cajun Gold rock the house. On March 5, the Red Stick Ramblers and the Pine Leaf Boys team up while they hold a Traditional Mardi Gras costume contest. On March 6, Kyle Huval & The Dixie Club Ramblers and Jesse Lege & Joel Savoy gang up for family night where the kids are welcome to attend. On March 7, Ryan Brunet & Les Malfecteurs and Horace Trahan & The Ossun Express blow the roof off. The shows usually run 7 p.m. to midnight. Go out and support local music and swing like a gypsy with the Krewe de Lake View. If you don't feel like driving home after the music, you can book an RV site and just crash out in your car.

MARDI GRAS WEEK: ATCHAFALAYA CLUB
On March 4, Nik L Beer kicks it variety band style. On March 5, the Pine Leaf Boys and  Steve Riley team up for some neo-proto-retro Cajun music. And on March 6, The Foret Tradition brings it all home.
