Chaplin would always win at charades

by Anna Purdy

The Acadiana Center for the Arts has been coming up with a roster of neato stuff to draw in the whole community. One of those is a theme night they have once a month. Last month it was a viewing of "The Big Lebowksi" with White Russians and virtual bowling, this month it's Charlie Chaplin.

The Acadiana Center for the Arts has been coming up with a roster of neato stuff to draw in the whole community. One of those is a theme night they have once a month. Last month it was a viewing of The Big Lebowksi complete with White Russians and virtual bowling, this month it's Charlie Chaplin.

Tonight, Thursday, April 21, the film being shown is City Lights, the predessessor to the modern day romantic comedy minus the schmaltz and Kate Hudson's whiney squeals. In it, Chaplin plays his character knows as The Tramp who falls in love with a blind flower girl. The Tramp saves a millionaire's life who then rewards The Tramp yet throws him out every time he sobers up. It's funny, it's slapstick, it's touching, it's Chaplin.

The hubub starts at 7 p.m. on April 21. Come dressed in your Chaplin finest and try winning the costume contest. Buy tickets in advance online or at the door that night.
