Vision Airlines is expanding to Lafayette, offering its non-stop, low fare air service from Lafayette Regional Airport to Northwest Florida beginning June 1.

Vision Airlines is expanding to Lafayette, offering its non-stop, low fare air service from Lafayette Regional Airport to Northwest Florida beginning June 1. The cost this morning to book a flight out of Lafayette to Destin-Fort Walton Beach on June 4 is $99 each way.

"Vision Airlines' announcement is another sign that Florida's beaches are clean and ready for visitors to enjoy, whether for business or a family vacation," said Florida's governor Rick Scott.

Northwest Florida's Emerald Coast - voted the "Best Beach Town in the South" for 14 consecutive years by the readers of Southern Living - encompasses the southern sea towns of Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island. It boasts amenities like 24 miles of white shoreline and more than 1,080 challenging golf course holes.

"The new routes to Destin/Fort Walton Beach are consistent with our planned growth to Florida," says David Meers, Vision Airline chief operating officer. "These markets are underserved by the major carriers, and many of these markets have lost significant service over the years."

Emerald Coast tourism is hoping to rebound this summer after enduring a challenging year due to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in April 2010.

Starting June 1, 2011, Vision Airlines will serve the following markets to Northwest Florida:
Lafayette.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
St. Louis, Mo.
Las Vegas, Nev.
Memphis, Tenn.

Vision Airlines, headquartered in Atlanta, began operations in 1994 in Las Vegas. Today the company operates a mixed fleet of aircraft including the Boeing 767, Boeing 737 and Dornier 328 aircraft.
