Guests gathered in the Savoies' campus estate to thank Wells for serving as honorary chair of UL's Campaign for Scholarships and to celebrate that the drive is halfway to a $4.7 million goal. The popular writer resides in Seattle but was born in Alexandria and remains close to her two nieces who are UL grads: Emily Wells Moody, who lives in Alexandria and is a 2007 liberal arts graduate with a major in public relations, and Claire Wells, a 2008 business administration graduate who is employed at Acadian Ambulance. Wells was joined by her brother Tom, who drove in from central Louisiana, and her publicist, Burke Walker. Also among the guests were philanthropists Kevin and Tracy Moody, Gerry Boustany Ramsey, Doug and Tanya Yentzen, Raymond Goodrich, Tim and Darey Bordelon and Connie Rogue Steward, as well as faculty and staff, including Joby John, Gordon Brooks, Mary Ann Wilson, Rae Robinson Broadnax, Darleen Lugenbuhl, David Comeaux and Gerald Carlson.

Hoping to hone her leadership skills, Party Girl spent the day with Leadership Lafayette Class XXIV as it learned about City-Parish government issues. Highlights included an open dialogue presentation by City-Parish President Joey Durel and City-Parish Council members Kenneth Boudreaux and Mary Morrison, followed by a tour of and lunch at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility. Class members also discussed their book club reading of Leadership and the One-Minute Manager: Increasing Effectiveness through Situational Leadership. Other guest presenters for the full-day session included Terry Huval, Tony Tramel, Mike Hollier and Bruce Conque. The day required us to use Lafayette's public transportation to access travel to some of the day's activities. I can't wait to see Rickey, Mike, Page, Joel, Nancy and the rest of the Acadiana gang for the May 11 session, when we'll be visiting the Capitol!
