9/11 memorial tonight at Parc Sans Souci

by Anna Purdy

Within 24 hours, with the announcement of one death, Parc San Souci goes from the place of food, fun and Festival International to a place of somber remembrance.

Last night while the revelry of Festival was winding down, an announcement was made that Osama bin Laden, orchestrator of the attacks on September 11, 2001, was killed outside of Islamabad, Pakistan. An elite troop of Navy SEALs was ordered to kill bin Laden on site, not to capture.

Former radio host Lou Rom is hosting an impromptu 9/11 memorial in remembrance of those lost in the attacks, and those who fought and died because of the war instigated by the attacks that day. Fire Chief Robert Benoit is speaking as are some faith leaders and others. More speakers are being gathered. The memorial begins at 6 p.m. this evening at Parc Sans Souci.

All are invited to attend this apolitical event.

Details on the downtown gathering are still developing. For more information on tonight's memorial, click here.
