Lemoine chooses retirement

Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Burnell Lemoine says he will retire in December, as planned, rather than accept another short-term extension from the board. Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Burnell Lemoine will retire at the end of the year as planned. Lemoine made the announcement at the start of Wednesday's school board meeting.

The 43-year education veteran is serving a one-year contract that expires Dec. 31, 2011, the second such short-term extension. He has been the full-time superintendent for LPSS since 2007.
