Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Burnell Lemoine says he will retire in December, as planned, rather than accept another short-term extension from the board. The 43-year education veteran is serving a one-year contract that expires Dec. 31, 2011, the second such short-term extension. He has been the full-time superintendent for LPSS since 2007.
