WTH? Pastorek calling it quits

A lawyer by training, Paul Pastorek has been a polarizing figure during his tenure as superintendent of Louisiana's public schools, pushing for aggressive reforms that have raised the hackles of district superintendents, teachers unions and school boards across the state.

Major Louisiana news media including Baton Rouge Business Report and The Advocate are reporting that state Superintendent Paul Pastorek will announce his resignation Tuesday. The Advocate cites Board of Elementary and Secondary Education members Walter Lee and Chas Roemer in its report. Read what Gov. Bobby Jindal had to say here.

Pastorek could not be reached for comment, and René Greer, Pastorek's director of public affairs, was in a meeting just before noon when we called. An email directly to Pastorek has also gone unanswered.
