United Way of Acadiana and the National Association of Letter Carriers have joined up to help the hungry on Saturday.
May 14 you can leave canned goods near or in a bag hanging from your mailbox and postal carriers will pick them up. This charitable event is part of the 18th Annual National Association of Letter Carrier's Food Drive. Whatever non-perishables are picked up will be donated and distributed to local food banks to help hungry families, many of them with children.
After the event last year it is estimated that the postal workers and the public donations provided 21,880 meals to families in Acadiana, so leave what you can, if you can.
