Thibodaux Tech taking shape

by Heather Miller

The only one of its kind in the Lafayette Parish School System, Thibodaux Tech will include four career themes, advanced manufacturing, health and applied sciences, business information systems and human services. Planning workshops are taking place for project managers and stakeholders at David Thibodaux Career and Technical High School as they gear up for the fall opening at its new home, NP Moss Middle School.

The Advocate reports that students, teachers, parents and, more importantly, business leaders began workshops last week to outline the basics for the school, such as school colors, traffic flow and more:
The diverse input, particularly from the business community, is necessary to fulfill the school's mission of helping students prepare for their future, said Wayne Domingue, of Architects Southwest and project manager.

The workshop discussions will help shape a plan to be presented to the School Board next month. The plan will serve as a starting point for the eventual design for the school site, Domingue explained.

In August, the school will only have classes of ninth- and 10th- graders. As students advance in the curriculum and their interest area grows more focused, specialized lab space and workshops will be needed.

The decision to move to NP Moss Middle came after the middle school saw repeated low performance scores and was threatened with a state takeover of the failing school.
