State Rep. Rickey Hardy, who defeated former Lafayette City-Parish Councilman Chris Williams for the District 44 seat in 2007, is seeking re-election.

In announcing his plans, Hardy says his platform is based on principles that he has always championed: "raising educational standards for our children and exposing corruption wherever it may be and whoever is in involved in it."

Before joining the House, Hardy was elected to four terms on the Lafayette Parish School Board. As a first-termer in the House, he was appointed to the powerful House Appropriations Committee (forcing his resignation from the House Commerce Committee) and also serves on the Education Committee, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget and the Judiciary Committee.

The lifelong Lafayette resident is a Comeaux High grad and graduate of Southwest Paralegal College. Hardy is self-employed, running his own lawn care and house washing business in north Lafayette. He is married to the former Marie Celestine and has four children and two grandchildren.

Hardy faces Lafayette businessman Vince Pierre in the race.
