Perry leads La. GOP

by Walter Pierce

Former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer was not included in the poll.

A recent poll by Washington, D.C.-based Wilson Perkins Allen Opinion Research finds Texas Gov. Rick Perry with an almost double-digit lead over his closest competitor among likely voters in the Louisiana Republican primary. Perry leads Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann 30 to 16 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is a close third at 15 percent.

The field was rounded out by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (9 percent), U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (6), former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (2), pizza magnate Herman Cain (2) and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum (1). Nineteen percent of respondents were unsure of their preference. Interestingly, the firm did not include former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer in the poll.

According WPA's website, a random sample of 601 voters was polled Aug. 14-16. But the poll results were culled from a sub-sample of 183 registered Republicans. The margin for error, according to the firm, is a rather large one as polls go: plus or minus 7.2 percent.
