Alcohol-free band battle Saturday

by Anna Purdy

A battle of the bands festival called 21 For 21 will be this Saturday at Parc Sans Souci.

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is in a partnership with the Knowledge Effect Coalition to hold a booze-free battle of the bands and dance party this Saturday at Parc Sans Souci. There is no charge to attend.

Starting at 4 p.m. all bands competing will be under the age of 21 and there are 21 sponsors for the event. YAC seeks to educate their peers on the negative effects of alcohol as well as putting on more alcohol-free, family-friendly events. The Knowledge Effect Coalition educates people about substance abuse through community events and education.

The bands and individuals competing in the battle of the bands are Tandem, Last to Know, As It Rains, Chapters of Eight, Jebediah and the Rabbis, Taylor Verrett, Mo Blak, Naybor's Basement, and The Beatniks. While the event is free to the public people are encouraged to buy $2 raffle tickets that support the event and entitle the buyer to a chance to win an iPod Touch. Roly Poly, Viva la Waffle and more food vendors will be there.
