ACA: Resident artists wanted

by Anna Purdy

The application process will be competitive and selective. Only residents of one of the eight parishes in Acadiana may qualify.

The Acadiana Center for the Arts is introducing a new residency program. Artist-in-residency programs allow the artist to focus and hone his or her skills in their art and are meant to enrich both the facility sponsoring them as well as the community and themselves.

Starting Sept. 10, applications for ACA's residency program will be available online at acadianacenterforthearts.org. The deadline to apply is Nov. 4 and two artists will be chosen. The recipients will be announced Jan. 6, 2012.

The residencies are geared toward the development of a full-scale production in the ACA's James Devin Moncus Theatre, so performing artists such as actors, playwrights, dancers and choreographers are encouraged to apply. Resources will be provided to stage a professional production including rehearsal time and space, technical support and marketing.

The residency is to begin soon after the January announcement. The productions the chosen residency artists create will be staged in the spring of 2012 for the public.

The application process will be competitive and selective. Only residents of one of the eight parishes in Acadiana may qualify.
