Cheddar's Casual Café heading to Lafayette

by Leslie Turk

The Irving, Texas, based casual concept plans to open on Johnston Street near the Mall of Acadiana.

Now about 100 units strong, Irving, Texas-based Cheddar's Casual Café is planning its first Lafayette location at 5775 Johnston St. near the Mall of Acadiana.

Few details are available at this point, as only civil drawings have been submitted to Lafayette Consolidated Government's Planning, Zoning and Codes Department. The two individuals listed as contacts could not be reached this morning for comment. A message left with Cheddar's corporate office was not immediately returned.

The chain of neighborhood restaurants was co-founded by Aubrey Good and Doug Rogers, who opened the first restaurant in 1978 outside of Six Flags in Arlington, Texas. According to the company's website, Good and Rogers envisioned an inviting neighborhood restaurant offering housemade, high quality food at a reasonable price. The restaurant offers burgers, sandwiches, salads, steaks, soups and barbecue.

Cheddar's does have franchise partners, but the majority of the restaurants are corporate owned and operated, according to the company's website.
