1920's fundraiser for local art center

by Anna Purdy

A 1920s-inspired fundraiser is just the ticket to help support downtown Lafayette theater Cité des Arts.

Cité des Arts is located at 109 Vine St. in between Buchanan and Jefferon Streets. Since 2000 it has been supporting the local arts and its creators by playing host to Christmas pantomimes, jam sessions, plays, flea markets, movie nights, art shows, musicals and more. It is able to do so through grants for the arts and donations and it is considered a "grassroots art center."

This Nov. 5 a fundraiser will be held for its benefit at the Marsh House on Avery Island. Get out your flapper dress and practice your flagpole-sitting because it is an evening inspired by the 1920s, probably the last era in America when men commonly wore fur coats.

Called "An Evening with Cole Porter," several established musicians will be covering Porter tunes. Charles Manns, Ann Savoy, Patsy Bienvenue, Erica Fox, Johanna Divine, Kurt Boudreaux and David Trainer will be performing songs like "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Night and Day."

Tickets are $100. This includes the show, drinks and food provided by some of the best restaurants in Acadiana. The event begins at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling Cité at 291-1122 or by going to Cite's site.
