Conservative group targets candidates

by Walter Pierce

The Taxpayers Union of Louisiana is targeting members of the Legislature who voted in 2008 to double their pay.

The Taxpayers Union of Louisiana, an offshoot of the conservative National Taxpayers Union, is targeting members of the Legislature seeking re-election or hoping to move from one chamber to the other due to term limits who voted in 2008 to double their pay. The pay raise passed the Legislature, but Gov. Bobby Jindal, after initially signalling he would let the raise stand but who later acquiesced to intense public and media pressure, vetoed the measure.

Only one lawmaker on the TUL list - state Sen. Eric LaFleur, D-Ville Platte - is a target. To see the complete list of nearly 30 solons in the TUL crosshairs, click here.
