Let's not quibble, okay? Marcelle Bienvenu is the Queen of Cajun Cooking. She has a food column, she's written many cookbooks, she teaches cooking and she schools other celebrity chefs about what's what in our cuisine. So who better to be a judge at the 4th Annual Boudin Cook-Off?

Let's not quibble, okay? Marcelle Bienvenu is the Queen of Cajun Cooking. She has a food column, she's written many cookbooks, she teaches cooking and she schools other celebrity chefs about what's what in our cuisine. So who better to be a judge at the 4th Annual Boudin Cook-Off? Bienvenu sits on the judging panel with folks from New Orleans to Texas who love boudin. And maybe you? This year the Historic Preservation Alliance of Lafayette, which the cook-off benefits, is auctioning off a seat on the panel to a layman who loves cased meats. You can also see what else is planned for this year's gastronomical feats, like fun jumps, cooking demonstrations and music by Sons of Voodoo and The Howdies. Or just show up on that blessed day, buy some raffle tickets and start oinking out on the many varieties of boudin. The Cook-off begins at 10 a.m. in Parc San Souci. Come eat you some.

SUNDAY, Oct. 23
There are those whose doodles look like masterpieces and those whose doodles look like doody. For the latter, Painting With a Twist at 1812 W. Pinhook Road comes to the rescue. It is an "art as entertainment" studio. You go in and basically are given enough succinct instruction and such a steady template to work from that you walk out with your own masterpiece. Every class is different, but this day is special because it goes to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The gold fleur-de-lis entwined with the pink breast cancer awareness ribbon combines the Acadiana spirit with the awareness that although many women die every year from this cancer they won't always, because a cure is around the corner. Class is $45, and reservations can be made online at paintingwithatwist.com or by calling 234-9783.
