Although the events have already started, Grand Coteau's Festival of Words begins a week from today running Nov. 3-5. This celebration involves established writers as well as the work of local schools.

The Festival of Words' director is Patrice Melnick of Casa Azul. Students from schools like St. Martinville Senior High, Breaux Bridge Senior High and the Magnet Academy of Cultural Arts will offer performances of original works. Former Louisiana Poet Laureate Darrell Bourque is hosting an event and being joined by poets Toi Derricotte, Barb Johnson, Tim Seibles and others.

The cities of Grand Coteau, Sunset, Arnaudville and Eunice are a few of the Festival of Words' settings. This is its fourth year.

The schedule of events is here. There are workshops and readings for writers of all ages and genres. If you have an inquiry about a class or you are a business or nonprofit who wants to help, please call Melnick at 662-1032.
