Seeking Under 40, Entrepreneur of the Year nominations

by Leslie Turk

If you know a local business person with a great story, we want to hear from you.

ABiz is again seeking nominations for its Entrepreneur of the Year and successful entrepreneurs under 40 awards.

Nominees for Entrepreneur of the Year can be 20 years old or 60. In business for a decade or a year. They might employ two people, 500 or 2,000.

For this project, we also will be profiling several individuals under the age of 40 who are making their mark on the Acadiana business community. Nominees' companies must be headquartered in Acadia, Lafayette, St. Landry, Iberia and St. Martin and Vermilion parishes and cannot be controlled by a company based outside of the region.

The only criteria for all nominations are that these individuals embody Acadiana's entrepreneurial spirit and create jobs and opportunities in the region.

We also want people who take chances - which encourages others to do the same - and have great stories to tell.

The nomination process closes Wednesday, Nov. 9, and those selected will be profiled in the December issue of ABiz, which hits newsstands Nov. 23. Email your nominations to Leslie Turk at [email protected] and please put Entrepreneur of the Year in the subject line.

Feel free to submit as many nominations as you'd like for both Entrepreneur of the Year and for the Under 40 awards. Send the name of the nominee, his or her company, and a short paragraph about why you think this person should be recognized. We'll do the follow-up with them.

To get a better idea of the kind of individuals we're looking for, read about the 2008 entrepreneurs here and the 2007 winners here.

In 2009 we selected our first Entrepreneur of the Year, Dr. Kip Schumacher. In 2010, no selection was made.
