Local dancer and choreographer Paige Krause presents I've Stopped Having that Dream I've Been HavingNov. 11 and 12 at the Acadiana Center for the Arts' James D. Moncus Theater.
Krause is an artist-in-residence at AcA as well as education coordinator. Artists working out of AcA are given tools to create a public performance. In Krause's case, I've Stopped Having that Dream I've Been Having is a combination of dance, music and visual arts. Featuring Krause as well as Esther Winn Burley, Kara St. Clair and Chad Trahan, the four create a performance that seeks to blur the line between fantasy and reality. I've Stopped Having that Dream features an original score and is performed live by composer Philippe Landry. Artist Marla Kristicevich created the installation art for the project.
These artists as well as stage designer Brian Schneider form (C)ollaborate 78, a collective of artists who work together on various projects.
"This is a full residency and we've been working on this performance for almost a year," says Krause. "I think this is such an interesting performance to be a part of and to see as an audience member because if you've been in the AcA's theater you know it's a flexible space. It's been converted into a way we haven't used it yet." It has been designed in a theater-in-the-round manner where the audience surrounds the stage on all sides.
Krause is very excited about the other aspects of her piece. "Philippe Landry has been completely involved in the process from the start, coming to every rehearsal. It's such a rich environment. Brian Schneider has done an incredible job lighting it and Marla Kristicevich has created some amazing work."
As of now there are no set plans for another formal performance of I've Stopped Having that Dream I've Been Having after this weekend, although plans may change. Krause hopes to bring this piece to New Orleans in the spring.
Both of the performances this weekend are at 8 p.m. in the James D. Moncus Theater. Friday's performance features a Q&A with the artists afterword. Saturday's performance is scheduled to take place after ArtWalk. Tickets are $10 for students and AcA members and $12 for the rest of the public.
