Pull a Tab Benoit tonight

Second-to-last Downtown Alive! of the 2011 Fall Series is tonight and Tab Benoit plays.

Second-to-last Downtown Alive! of the 2011 Fall Series is tonight and Tab Benoit plays.

Since coming on the Louisiana blues music scene in the early 199's Benoit has recorded and played with some of the greats: Willie Nelson, Allen Toussaint, George Porter, Dr. John, Junior Wells and many more. Tonight he comes to Parc International in downtown Lafayette.

The park and concessions open at 5:30 p.m. with music starting at 6 p.m.

Benoit has been nominated for a Grammy three times. Born in Houma, Benoit found his influences in Delta blues and Louisiana roots music; Cajun and zydeco with a healthy dose of 1960s R&B. He is one of the more vocal wetlands activists and uses his music for that platform often as well as sitting on the board of Voice of the Wetlands. You can check out Benoit's music at his site.

It never hurts repeating that Downtown Alive! performances are always free, always smoke-free events and always pet-free. It's respectfully asked that you leave coolers at home because purchasing concessions at the event keeps them alive - pun intended.

Reminder too that the season's last Downtown Alive! performance is this Wednesday, Nov. 23. Traditionally held the night before Thanksgiving, it includes the lighting of downtown's Christmas tree in Parc San Souci. Pine Leaf Boys will perform and a horse-drawn carriage will be available for a $1 donation or an unwrapped and brand new toy donation to Toys for Tots.
