The list of farmer's markets is growing along with the movement toward attaining locally sourced goods. The Freetown Market is now popular enough to add Saturdays.
For several months the Freetown Farmers Market has been open on Wednesday afternoons on the corner of Vermilion and Johnston. From roughly 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. the market is open in an easily accessible empty lot. There is plenty of parking along Vermilion.
Now on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the market will be hopping as well. Earlier on Saturday mornings the Hub City Farmer's Market gets going in the Oil Center, from 8 a.m. to noon. So for the people who don't exactly rise or shine on Saturday mornings you now have the option of a later market.
What can you get? Every week markets change what is available so it's best just to go and see for yourself. Herbs, vegetables, crafts, soaps, breads, tamales, plants and flowers are just a few of the things offered with some regularity. It's a great place to think up gifts for the holiday season.
